How to clean kitchen appliances?

Do you know how to clean kitchen appliances? If your answer is “just use a multipurpose product”, be aware: this can damage the devices. In times when both the white line (stove, refrigerator and microwave) and smaller equipment (mixer, coffee maker, among others) are also used as  decorative objects , nobody wants to take that risk

With refined finishes and differentiated design, the appliances deserve to be very well taken care of. So, enjoy the following tips!

How to clean appliances correctly?

Small electronic devices are often the most difficult to sanitize, especially when there are almost inaccessible corners. But with the right strategies, the task becomes more practical. Check out tips for cleaning appliances without error:

1. Blender

Wash moving parts in the  sink , applying a neutral detergent to the softest part of the sponge. To clean propellers and threads, use a toothbrush. If the appliance has the “self-cleaning” function, add water to the middle of the glass, a little detergent and press the pulse button until it is clean. If it is very greasy, use lukewarm water (not too hot to avoid the risk of crushing the blender glass).
If the fat still doesn't come out, mix it with 1 cup (tea) of vinegar, 1 tablespoon of detergent and 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Beat for about 1 minute, leave on overnight and wash as normal.

2. Mixer

Wash the moving parts (bowls and shovels) with a sponge or soft bristle brush, mild detergent and water. If there are oily residues, use hot water. Then rinse.

3. Juicer and processor

Use neutral detergent and a soft sponge. Wash as soon as possible, especially after using citrus fruits. Every 15 days, place the removable parts in a mixture of water and baking soda. Soak for a few hours to remove stains.

4. Grill and sandwich maker

Don't even think about scraping off the encrusted dirt with a knife, as this will damage the teflon (black non-stick layer). Moisten them with water and neutral detergent and remove with the soft part of the sponge. After cleaning, dry with paper towels.

5. Toaster

To clean the gaps, the tip is to throw a little coarse salt (the condiment sticks to the crumbs). Then, cover the entrances with paper towels and shake. Turn the toaster upside down and stir from side to side to remove all salt and food scraps.

6. Coffee maker

The moving parts must be washed with water, neutral detergent and a soft sponge. For internal cleaning, turn on the coffee maker and let a solution of water with sodium bicarbonate pass through the strainer. The base of the coffee maker can be cleaned with a damp cloth and then a dry cloth. The coffee stain in the glass jar is usually left to soak, with water and vinegar, overnight.

7. Microwave

Wash the dish with a soft sponge and mild detergent. If fat accumulates on the inner wall, wipe with a cloth moistened with a mixture of 500 ml of warm water and 2 tablespoons of sodium bicarbonate. Another tip is to put slices of ½ lemon and 1 tablespoon of water in a  bowl , allowing to warm up for 1 minute. Finally, use a cloth or paper towel.

8. Refrigerator

On a daily basis, prioritize the cleaning of the fruit and vegetable drawer. Wipe with a cloth moistened with a mixture of 2 liters of warm water with 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Then dry. Set to turn off the  refrigerator  once a year to do a thorough cleaning.

9. Stove and oven

Remove the moving parts (grills, burners and burners) and soak them (for 5 minutes) in a container with 500 ml of hot water, ½ cup (tea) of white vinegar, juice of 1 lemon and a pinch of baking soda sodium. Rub the sanitized parts with a non-stick sponge to avoid scratching. Then rinse and dry them.
In the oven, the internal walls can be cleaned only with a cloth moistened with water. The grids should be washed with water, neutral detergent and a soft sponge. If it doesn't work, use sodium bicarbonate again. Dissolve it in a little water and let it act for 12 hours. Then, remove the mixture with a damp sponge, rinse and dry.

10. Oil fryer

After cooling, remove the oil and wash the frying basket with water, neutral detergent and a soft sponge. Fill it with hot water and let it soak for 30 minutes. If necessary, repeat the process. Rinse and let dry.
Clean the grease from the pan, lid and heating pins with moistened paper towels (if necessary, scrape with a plastic spatula) and neutral detergent. Clean or replace the cover filters (as indicated by the manufacturer).
If you still have oil impregnated in the pan, apply a paste of baking soda with water, making circular movements. Rinse and let dry.

11. Airfryer (oil-free fryer)

Remove the basket and turn the airfryer upside down. Clean the heating element with hot water and a soft bristle sponge or brush. That done, put it in the normal position, return the basket and call for a few minutes, so that the remaining residues are released.
Wash the basket with water, neutral detergent and soft sponge. Rinse and let dry. The outer part can be cleaned with a soft, slightly damp cloth and a few drops of detergent.

Why do I have to dry the appliances after cleaning?

When cleaning the bases (where the resistors or motors are located) and the wires of the electronic devices, it is recommended to unplug them and use a cloth moistened with water and, if necessary, neutral detergent. Then dry with a dish towel.
Appliances must be completely dry before they are stored, so as not to mold. The moving parts, acrylic or plastic, can dry on the drying rack. In the case of stainless steel appliances, water, neutral detergent and a soft sponge should be used. However, it is necessary to dry them immediately after cleaning - otherwise, the surface is all stained.

What are the most common mistakes made with home appliances?

Not cleaning or cleaning with inappropriate products, in addition to taking long periods for cleaning are the main mistakes in relation to the care of kitchen appliances. When this happens, they are impregnated with dirt and can irreversibly stain. Even appliances that are not in direct contact with food receive vapors and fats through the air, needing to be cleaned regularly.
To avoid making mistakes, read the manufacturers' manuals on what to use on each appliance. Often, different parts of the same equipment require different care. Also, don't forget to always clean them before first use.

What can burn electronic devices?

Several factors can burn appliances, for example overloading them beyond their power. In the case of the blender, it is important to put the liquid ingredients first and then the dry ingredients, so as not to force the engine.
However, short circuits, voltage variations and  lightning strikes  are mainly responsible for burning electronic devices. To prevent this type of damage, it is recommended to remove the equipment from the outlets when not in use.
Although this measure is possible  when the family is traveling , on a daily basis it is normal to leave them plugged in - which increases the risk. That is why so many people take out  home insurance  with electrical damage coverage.
